Welcome to the very first What the Word Says Wednesday post this year! My Wednesday posts will be me sharing a little bit about what God has been teaching me, showing to me, and/or put on my heart. My hope in sharing this is that it will inspire you to develop a more intimate relationship with God. Maybe you’ve never had a relationship with the Lord; then my hope would be that you would seek the Lord and accept Him as your Savior. '
The past few weeks, the song Forever Reign by Hillsong United (and others sing it as well) has been really sticking out to me whenever I hear it. We started singing it in church shortly after I had started loving the song, and the lyrics really spoke to me. As, I’ve been singing it and hearing it, I thought it may be a neat idea to see where in the Bible it says these things about God. Below are the lyrics and a link to a video of Hillsong singing it. Underneath the video link, you will find some of the verses I found that claim the attributes of God the lyrics list.
Forever Reign
You are good, You are good
When there's nothing good in me
You are love, You are love
On display for all to see
You are light, You are light
When the darkness closes in
You are hope, You are hope
You have covered all my sin
You are peace, You are peace
When my fear is crippling
You are true, You are true
Even in my wandering
You are joy, You are joy
You're the reason that I sing
You are life, You are life,
In You death has lost its sting
Oh, I’m running to Your arms,
I’m running to Your arms
The riches of Your love
Will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the world forever reign
You are more, You are more
Than my words will ever say
You are Lord, You are Lord
All creation will proclaim
You are here, You are here
In Your presence I'm made whole
You are God, You are God
Of all else I'm letting go
Oh, I’m running to Your arms
I’m running to Your arms
The riches of Your love
Will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the world forever reign
My heart will sing
no other Name
Jesus, Jesus
Oh, I’m running to Your arms
I’m running to Your arms
The riches of Your love
Will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the world forever reign
You are good- 2 Timothy 1:9 “He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.”
How awesome that God has saved us just because—we don’t have to do anything except ask Him into our hearts and we are saved! I’d say that is pretty good!
You are love- John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
You are light- 1 John 1:5 “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”
You are hope- Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
You are peace- 2 Timothy 1:7 “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
Isaiah 41:13 “For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”
You are true- John 17:3 “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
You are joy- Psalm 126:3 “The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”
You are life- 2 Timothy 1:9 “He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
You are more- Read in the book of Revelation and you will see that God is more than we can imagine!
You are Lord- Revelation 17:14 “They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb has overcome them for He is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings and with Him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”
This is our memory verse for a Bible study on Revelation that I attend. I love this verse because it reminds me the Lord has overcome the enemy!
Revelation 19:16 “On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
You are here- Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
You are God- Exodus 3:13-15 “Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.[a] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD,[b] the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’
“This is my name forever,
the name you shall call me
from generation to generation.
These are just a few of the verses I found to back up what the lyrics in this song say. I hope you find them encouraging!
